Musings On The Close Of Day

I move my chair

to observe Mt. Fuji-

monstrous  perfection

topped with the cooling crust

of spring snows.

Languid movement

of a branch,

like a geisha

unfurling her arm

from a gray kimono,

makes petals fall,

a scented, pink snow

covering my upturned face

with careless kisses.

Timid winds caress

my limbs,

a fleeting relief

to tired bones

brittle now with

a sullen defeat of life.

Raked sand of garden

waves barely disturbed

by feet like two gray stones

as grains  flow

round ankles.

I realize once again

I am no obstacle to

the sands of time.

My heart goes quiet

by the passage of nothing

for in this nothing

is revealed the fullness of life.

    Lady, Howdy!
Nothing is an obstacle to the marching, passage of time, because the program TIME has already been installed. The only Power Source has willed it to seem so to us. My Opinion…

Again and again, I must say that you write so very well, woman. It is a pleasure to read your work. Thank you for sharing ir here.

I am trying to believe in that Power Source….but it’s a struggle. Time marching on seems more…real.

Thanks again, Steve. I am learning to stay in my zone about poetry…otherwise, it seems strained, false, you know the rest.

I think there are enough dimensions in poetry to go around and others take up so much better, truer….other forms of it.

in this nothing is revealed the fullness of life….wow…i could drink this line again and again…are you really having such a view from your chair…even if you have to move it… this is gorgeous…but maybe the moving of the chair is metaphor..this is a multi-layered piece for sure

    Hi Brian,

I dunno…I think perhaps I have had too much death in the face lately, and it affects my poetry.

    so it goes…as does life.

I wouldn’t mind this poem etched on my tombstone. LOL!

Thank you, Brian for reading and your lovely comment.

    Hi Claudia…

I wrote this poem, but I don’t understand it. Yet. I think you are right about the layers…perhaps we have to grow into them?

Nah…moving the chair was just moving the chair…..LOL! A way to open the poem. And who ever knows what happens next? Unless there is a driving ‘thing’ in a poem? I just await them….and then don’t usually understand them.

Thank you, dear friend, for reading and your lovely, insightful comment. Makes me think.

    Hi Jenne,
No, I haven’t but I’ll look for it.

Mt. Fuji inspires a lot of poetry around the world. It’s a holy place, as is Mt. Gassan in northwest Japan.

There is serenity and beauty here, but not without a cost–the image of the feet amidst the sands, leaving no wake, no trail, in a flow that begins and ends far beyond us is soothing yet also has like Mt Fuji, something monstrous in its perfection as well. Fine poem, Lady N.

I think you nailed that contradiction…we don’t even had enough substance in our short lives, beyond our egos…to leave a mark in the sand.

Mt. Fuji, being the ‘perfect’ mountain, is monstrous in it’s perfection. But it exists forever and a day.

Thank you, Hedgewitch, for reading and your insightful comment.

Thank you, Gay…that is one of the loveliest comments I have ever had here.

Sometimes (most times for me…lol!) what we write we have to grow into. I am finding that so for me. As for forms?

Well, they generally are simple in scope. Freeverse gives such liberty and I think this is the form I love the most. It communicates so much with so little trouble and possibly …effort.

Back at you, Gay. I fall into your poetry and just float. Like water and wine.

Alas, the sands of time do not wait for us. I feel I must surrender to the grains, and become part of the flow of them.

The whole arm of the geisha verse is stunning in a wonderful poem.
