Some Random Tanka….

So lonely am I

My soul like a floating weed

Severed at the roots

Drifting upon cold waters

No pillow for further dreams.

The truth of longing

Has nothing of nice logic.

A matter of hearts

So uneven, exciting!

But most painful, nonetheless.

The moon floats on wisps

Of clouds extending outward

Tendrils of white fire

Blanketing the universe

Gauzy ghosts of nothingness.

When nature is known

Reason for awe can be found

In familiar sights.

Intimacy at the core—

Astounding revelation!

Human frailties

wounds that bleed such heated blood

leave a dry vessel.

Without the moisture of love

the clay reverts to the ground.

nice…i like the diversity of feeling your verse…the sadness in the first one…of being alone and no pillow or soft place to land for the future…on the other end of the spectrum, i often find awe in nature so i really like that one…smiles…

    Hi Brian,
these are so random….LOL~ There isn’t any scheme to them to hold them together, but then again, they fit my mood. I’m rather weepy right now.

Our son is in the Navy, and has landed in Bahrain, and we won’t see our only child until the mid or late November….he will be 25 that month. What do you get a child who has all the electronics he can have?

His old cello, a lovely 1940’s German piece, is sitting here….and about two years ago, his husky Charlie, in one last attempt to cause havoc before he died, knocked it over and broke the neck. So, we will hopefully have a local music store fix it and restring it, and when he comes home…he will have his cello again.

Thank you for reading and your comment, Brian.

I’ll make the rounds today and tomorrow.

    Hi Claudia…

Well, these tanka were very, very random…LOL! I haven’t much energy right now to bring things together….I’m dieting! Ugh.

Cello: it is worth fixing….and has a lovely tone to it. A student cello, but nonetheless…old and worth it.

Thank you so much for reading and your comment, sweetie.

Tanka? I’ll have to look that up. I like the style, sort of freely telling a briefest story in four lines, then a fifth line of summation–sort of.
    Love and PEACE, Jane!

    Hey Steve!

Hello and thanks for reading and your lovely comment.

Tanka is a lot of fun….I did a presentation on tanka back in Feb. 2011 I believe for OneShot. It has a long history in Japan, from the 7th century or before…and is the most popular form of poetry in Japan today.

I could spend my life just reading old tanka and the history of this marvelous poetry.

It’s got rules….but they make sense…and of course, we learn them and probably break them. But they form a wonderful medium for poetry.

Peace and Love to YOU, Steve…

    And Yes! Nature is AWESOME!!
