Epic writing Jane – I love both the sensibility and ambition in this piece… Just up my street!

Thank you, Scott…this was an early one. I have only been composing poetry since 20o7 and this poem was around that time. I did research on mythologies, Greek, Latin, Persian, but this research was cut off too early to learn much. But it was so exciting! Edith Hamilton and others writing about Roman and Greek mythologies opened a whole new world for me. So this poem comes from this last decade, but Linda Ronstadt’s words, “Let the Rivers of Bablyon carry us away.” just spoke to something that was the true basis of this poem. I just grabbed Absalom to begin the poem. But he was a very beautiful man, according to history….so maybe he’s the ‘right’ man for this poem? LOL! The Persian influence is where the drunken dervishes preform in the poem. Thank you, for reading, Scott and for your lovely comment. I’ll be over tomorrow.
