“Easter Morning”

EASTER MORNING

The wind chimes are fierce
This Easter morning.
We thought of church where we would be aliens
Unknown and suspect, sitting on hard wooden pews; trespassers.

The music of the spheres
Is not out in the black of night
Does not pass from  star to star
As tones of energy or an ocean of harmony
But is carried by the wind from the east
That tallies majesty
With the music of wind chimes
More glorious than any carillon this morning.

I am soothed by a spirit
Random and precise,
Almost tangible blustering
piercing my heart
As it jangles the simple vehicle of
Hollow metal pipes
And awakes me to life.

Ah, I’ll choose wind chimes for my worship every time. Love this tribute to Easter morning.

The church is often a place where we feel alien… but those windchimes are maybe even more spiritual… good to find such a place.

Yep. I have 4 foot windchimes right outside my bed. They are a continuous symphony during the night. When the wind rises they keep me awake. I always wanted to stick a tape recorder out the window and just record the constant music. Might do that eventually. And yes, I feel alien in a church. Thanks, Bjorn.

Thank you, Sarah. It’s good to hear this. Being in the Bible Belt and not religious, I feel guilt, and being raised Episcopalian, more guilt. But Nature is my church and the wind chimes the choir. Works. Thank you, Sarah for your reading and comment. Blessings to you.

I love it when wind chimes are fierce, Jane! A great start to your poem. I also love the lines:
    ‘The music of the spheres

… is carried by the wind from the east
    That tallies majesty
With the music of wind chimes
More glorious than any carillon this morning’
    and
‘…it jangles the simple vehicle of
    Hollow metal pipes
    And awakes me to life’.
And what a start to the day!

LOL Kim~ Some mornings it makes me jump from bed. Those wind chimes are big and LOUD. I only hope they annoy my hateful neighbors. LOL. I put up with their music at 3am and the lights of their house lit up like a grow house (we have had to put black out curtains in our bedroom …) so maybe the wind chimes are on my side. LOL! Thank you, Kim.

Lovely tribute to Easter Morning Jane. Our neighbors have windchimes, small and tinkly. I have a deep bell that gives out low chimes when the chimes strike it. Someone behind us has chimes as well. The sound travels up through the woods at the strangest times..

I will…just to annoy them. They are renters and have an attitude about our neighborhood. Can’t wait until their house is built and they are gone. Bet they don’t know their 19 year old son is smoking dope at 8:30am on the front porch. LOL! Or perhaps they don’t care. I;ve thought about setting up a fan to blow through the window and hit the chimes just for MORE noise. I did take them down, though during a storm as they were alarming! LOL!

Fun to hear the confessions of a person free of the trappings of their birth religions, but just guilty enough to think of the mundane with religious tones! Funny, us humans, eh? Nicely penned.

A beautiful piece. Smiling I am as my son-in-law, Kevin Siegfried, is a successful composer – mainly of choral music. His piece Music of the Spheres was premiered by the Capitol Hill Chorale in Washington DC. If you google him, I think there might be a recording of it on his site? I think you would enjoy it. It includes a section for a glass armonica (that is the correct spelling; without an h) and I believe there are only 8 glass armonicas in the world…it is a very different instrument. Think you can google it as well. Anyway….all of that came to mind with your beautiful post. And oh my yes — wind chimes to me are magical….I can be rhapsodized by them 🙂 Sounds like you may feel that way as well. 🙂

Hi Lillian I will google your relative’s “Music of the Spheres” How wonderful….and I am familiar with the glass armonica. A strange sounding instrument, but I could see how it would fit in this theme. Thank you for reading, sharing and your lovely comment.
