I have a hankering for painting. I think I need the break after the intensity of writing and publishing “The Kimono” in October this year. Painting is something where you can let your self go: where you can blot out all the noise, the general crisis of life and just float. Some of these paintings were my first attempts at painting birds, and they were done in 1995. I went on and painted landscapes, birds and more birds. I seemed to be stuck on birds, but it did allow me to observe and paint in detail. There are a lot of feathers on birds, but my attending thoughts with birds was: Attitude NOT feathers. LOL! This winter I intend to paint again and see what happens.

This last painting was the cover for “White Cranes of Heaven”, published by Amazon.com in 2011.
And this above last painting, unfinished….got badly stretched.

Thank you, Judy. That painting I did in NC, by a stream running though our property. There is 14 acres up there that was deeded to us by his parents and there is nothing up there besides dear and scary stuff. LOL!

Hello dear Helene! I owe you a long letter and I have missed our conversations. Thank you. I really want to get back to painting but I don’t have much energy right now. “The Kimono” is just published this October and I am tired. LOL! Painting is NOT a relaxing event for me….not at all…but after writing/editing and publishing Kimono…it is a break! The NC scene by the stream with rocks was one painting that came very easily. Some just flummoxed me. I always start a new painting devoid of any technical know-how, just empty of all knowledge…but something kicks in. Unfortunately, the baby owls weren’t stretched by me in the beginning or a cat here took umbrage and peed on the painting, but I want to finish that one. Three years ago I read “Courage to Create” and I understood the marvelous book a bit. But more, I understood where creativity comes from….no muses need apply. LOL! Thank you, Helene. I want to do another owl, one of my favorite themes, but I am stumped right now. Maybe this winter I will unravel enough to paint. Bless you, dear heart!

Congratulations on the publishing of Kimono. You worked so hard on this one. Everything I have read that you posted from it was marvelous. I have not painted in a long time, more than a year so far. I just don’t have the inspiration for it at the moment. Everything about creativity for me usually comes in spurts. Right now I write, it seems to be where my spirit flows to create. I am not feeling well right now, a nasty kind of flu and some lasting after effects that are troubling me . Take care Jane. Always a pleasure to keep up with your news. Love and hugs to you.

Love and hugs to you, Helene. Take care of yourself, your precious self. This change in season is hard on the body, as I also have been feeling the flu. Georgia has the highest amount of flu in our country and I had it in Feb. last year…3 weeks after the shot! I am making chicken noodle soup about once a week and it does help: that old Jewish penicillin! LOL! Just the broth helps. As for creativity…I seem to be on a Russian 5 year plan…..LOL! but perhaps I will change. I hope you do get back to painting this winter. I am going to try sumi-e painting…as it has nothing but ink and large, pointed brushes. Perhaps that would entice you? We have to shake it up as we go, or we get bored and stale. My Love to you, Helene. xox

Thank you, Helene. I started to paint in that ‘style’ this spring but dropped it for writing….but! The technique has about NOTHING to do with watercolor. LOL! It’s all in the mark of the brush. I should this Winter dedicate time to it, to going back to learn it, because it is a technique that is elegant (not mine yet!) and meditative. xox
